THURSDAY, DAY 2- BUDAPEST
Arrive in Budapest, Hungary’s charming city, considered the most sophisticated of Eastern European capitals. Transfer to your deluxe room with stunning views of the Danube. Late afternoon orientation walking tour of the pedestrianized area of Budapest. Time to relax, unwind. Tonight, Welcome Cocktails, followed by a briefing on the special itinerary planned for your visit. C
FRIDAY - DAY 3- BUDAPEST
This morning, a Professional Visit is scheduled at one of Budapest’s leading hospitals; meet the staff for discussion of health care in Hungary. Then our tour of Budapest, divided by the Danube to the west and Pest to the east, includes the imposing Gothic Parliament Building, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Opera House and Heroes’ Square. Cross the Danube to Buda. Our tour is highlighted by Gellert Hill with its quaint narrow streets and charming shops, the Castle District, Fishermen’s Bastion with its spectacular views of the Danube and the ornate Coronation Cathedral See Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Statue and the gothic Medieval Synagogue (when open). Tonight, Dinner celebrates your arrival. BD
SATURDAY- DAY 4- BUDAPEST
Mid morning walking tour with your guide to the impressive National Ethnographic Museum. Balance of the day at leisure to explore at your own pace. Perhaps drive to the scenic Danube Bend and to Szentendre, a popular artist colony. B
SUNDAY, DAY 5- BUDAPEST-VIENNA
Morning transfer to the rail station and depart Budapest by train to Vienna, the sparkling city on the Danube. Afternoon tour of Imperial Vienna includes the stately Vienna State Opera, St. Stephen's Cathedral Palace. Tonight-dinner and concert at the Kursalon. BD
MONDAY, DAY 6- VIENNA
Morning visit and guided tour at Josephinum Museum of Medical History and the Sigmund Freud Museum, where the father of psychoanalysis met with patients and developed his revolutionary theories. This afternoon, drive to the beautiful Schonbrunn Palace and a guided tour of the Imperial Rooms. End the day with a stop at the French Gardens at the Belvedere Palace. Evening is free to sample various restaurants; your guide will make suggestions. B
TUESDAY, 7- VIENNA
Full day at leisure for optional pursuits. Perhaps the optional full day Danube Valley tour- see the beauty of Wachau and wind your way past charming villages and steep vineyards. Stop at Durnstein, the famous castle where King Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned. Continue to Krems and the Benedictine Abbey of Melk. B
WEDNESDAY- DAY 8- VIENNA-CESKY KRUMLOV-PRAGUE
Travel across the Czech border through the lush countryside, dotted with castles and pristine lakes to Cesky Krumlov, one of the most beautiful old towns on the continent. After lunch at a medieval Benedictine Monastery, time to explore the winding lanes and little shops that contribute so much to the atmosphere of this special town. Continue to Prague, arriving in the early evening. BL
THURSDAY, DAY 9 - PRAGUE
Morning Professional Visit is scheduled at one of Prague’s leading hospitals. This afternoon’s walking tour of the Jewish Quarter to see important sites such as the Jewish Museum, the Old Cemetery and the Jewish Town Hall. Stroll through narrow Golden Lane where the great Czech writer Franz Kafka once lived. Visit the Old Town with its Town Hall and Astrological Clock which virtually comes to life with the striking of the hours. Tonight, a Theater Performance B
FRIDAY- DAY 10- PRAGUE
Continue the tour of “golden” Prague in the Castle District of Hradcany, the former Royal Palace; see Vladislav Hall, a fine example of medieval architecture. On to Castle Square; see St. Vitus Cathedral with its towering spires. Balance of the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy this beautiful city at your own pace. Tonight’s Farewell Dinner at Sarah Bernhard’s restaurant near the hotel caps a memorable visit. BD
SATURDAY, DAY 11-EN ROUTE
Transfer to the airport for the return flight to the U.S. arriving later the same day. B
